Master Bedroom Makeover
Last year, I took a look around our master bedroom and realized it was definitely in need of some major TLC!
Unfortunately, we didn’t have much of a budget…or we didn’t have a big enough budget to match my Pinterest dream master bedroom board! But, after some DIY and lots of patience, we ended up with a beautiful modern master bedroom that didn’t cost an arm and a leg!
Unfortunately, I didn’t take many before pics. Actually, I didn’t take any at all. Due to the excitement of the makeover, taking before pics completely slipped my mind! But take it from me, the room was bland, dark, and very uninviting!
The first thing we did was paint! When we moved into our home the only thing we really did to this space was paint. The color we chose was a very light grey. Which was a great choice. however we decided to add a Gold accent…which was a mistake lol. That one wall made the room very dark. So to lighten things up, we painted over the accent wall. allowing it to match the rest of the room. Once the wall was covered, I was amazed at how bright the room was.
after endless Pinterest searches, we fell in love with the idea of having a paneled accent wall. While this DIY project was pretty simple and inexpensive, it made the greatest impact on our bedroom. Giving us the ‘modern farm house’ feel that I love so much!

Once the walls were completed I took inventory of everything we were currently using for our bedroom. Donating everything that didn’t fall into my design idea. I created a mood board that served as a guide while out shopping for room decor.
I decided to update our bedding. while we stuck with the same color, we purchased a better quality quilt and pillow shams. I purchased new pillow covers & a second quilt to add layers to the bed. We also swapped our dark grey sheets for crisp white linens.
These new additions gave our bed a more comfortable, yet luxurious feel!
This 5-foot mirror has to be one of my favorite HomeGoods finds to date! We purchased this mirror well before the makeover. It transitioned perfectly into our newly created space!
A few months before the makeover, we purchased new nightstands from Wayfair. Given the price point (it wasn’t an expensive purchase) The quality is great. the dark finish provided the room with great contrast.
I always found this wall to be odd. From the time we’ve moved into this home, we struggled to find ways to use the wall space. We discussed opening up the wall and adding french doors that lead to our backyard. We also discussed adding a center window. In the end, we decided on a much simpler route that ended up being a more practical option for us.
We used the extra wall space to create an intimate gallery wall.
I wanted our bedroom to be ‘ours’. A space that reminded us of the importance of quality time. I purchased the frames from HomeGoods (I know, the best place on earth!) The photographs were taken months prior. the gallery wall gave me an opportunity to showcase my wonderful photography abilities!
This space gave us an opportunity to add additional seating to the bedroom. after months of waiting, our ‘Dijon’ colored settee arrive from Nebraska Furniture Mart. This new edition provided our room with the pop of color we were looking for!
We added the rug as a final touch to the room. I’ve always been skeptical about purchasing rugs online due to bad experiences with colors and textures not matching the online description/pictures. After carefully reading reviews (with pictures) we purchased this one, with our fingers crossed!
in the end, the rug was a perfect match!
Prior to remodeling, the only thing this desk did was hold mounds of unfolded laundry and unopened mail!
Surprisingly, once i cleaned it off, added some lighting and a chair, it turned into a space that I was able to utilize daily.
I placed an acrylic TV tray under the desk as a convenient way to showcase my favorite magazines and current reads.
The lamp was the perfect addition to this space.
I was looking for a floor lamp that wouldn’t take up a lot of space. West Elm provided a ‘build your own’ option on the website. After customizing a lamp that would work for this space, I ended up finding the exact base of the lamp from HomeGoods! I then purchased the round glass cover from west elm.
These coffee table books were an amazing purchase.
Not only are they filled with beautiful black & brown images, but the books alone provides this area with a beautiful aesthetic that I love. The bookends were purchased from wayfair.
The Record player was a Christmas gift (to myself lol).
It quickly became one of my favorite possessions! I found an acrylic end table from (you guessed it) HomeGoods that was a great fit for the record player. The table has a bottom row perfect for storing my album collection.
Like I mentioned before, we have ALOT of wall space in our bedroom. This oversized mirror provided us with a great way to utilize that space. We added a small glass bookshelf below to store a few of my favorite books and knick-knacks.
